These performance images are taken under ambient lighting conditions with the performers typically unaware of the moment of capture, as opposed to those on the Portraiture page where the images are more ‘designed’ and the subject is typically directed to achieve the desired effect. Our performance shots are often used for CD booklets and in magazine reviews. More in-depth examples of performance images are shown on the Projects page.
The images on this site represent a small example of our work with a wide range of performing artists. They cover many different styles and usage – from straight reportage shots to the more weird and wonderful. Although all of the images were shot using the latest full-frame digital cameras, many of them have been processed in a retro film style. We like to think this gives the best of both worlds – the convenience and cost savings of digital combined with the warmth, grittiness and colours of film.
Many of the music shoots were arranged during breaks in recording sessions, representing a substantial cost saving over employing separate photographers and recording personnel. We hope you like the images and would be happy to talk through any project you might be planning.
